North Shore Getaway

Last weekend we took a trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior. Dave had never been to Minnesota's North Shore so it seemed like the perfect place to go for our anniversary trip.
Although Dave said he wanted to have a relaxing not "go-go-go" weekend, he allowed me to plan our activities (I'm the one who always wants to be busy on our vacations). Saturday we went to the Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls and biking on the Gitchi-Gami trail. Oh and of course we had to check out the 3M museum in Two Harbors. We even got $2 off our entrance fee for being 3M employees; our benefits are so plush... After all those activities all I wanted to do was go back to our room and relax. Thankfully we had a kitchen in our suite, so we bought a frozen pizza, some beer and a deck of cards and spent the rest of the evening in our room.

Sunday was all about hiking. It was a beautiful sunny day. First I took Dave to shovel point at Temperance State Park. It was cool to take him out to where I had been lowered over the edge of the cliff and then had to climb back up (yes I was a rock climber at one time). Then we went to Carlton Peak. We ate lunch in the spot were I had set up many climbs when I worked at scout camp. The colors weren't really peaking along the lake shore, but once we got up on the peak you could see the fabulous colors inland. Then we went to Britton Peak. The trails were very crowded, but the views were well worth it!

Monday we decided to just head back to the cities to get Brockway from my parents house and get ready for the week. Along the way I convinced Dave to go shopping at some furniture stores. I really want new master bedroom furniture and a sectional couch for our family room. I didn't find anything I really liked, but I've narrowed the search even more. So now it's back to the daily grind of work. If only all of life could be vacations.
