The Graduate

And just like that Adam graduates from preschool. Didn't I just take him to Kid's Inc for the first time a few short years ago? He and his fellow preschool graduates sang songs for us dressed as pirates and then we watched a slide show while they got on their caps and gowns to get their paper.

Grandma, Grandpa and uncle Henry made it to Hutch in time to watch the graduation program and Grandma and Grandpa Schwedler sent a congrats balloon to our house that showed up right on time for the special day! Adam we're all so proud of you!

Run The Bases

Last weekend we surprised the boys with a Twins game. Honestly we were a little surprised to find ourselves with tickets on Friday due to our friends needed to go out of town last minute for a funeral.

The Twins didn't win, but the boys got to run the bases after the game was over and it was probably just as awesome for David and I as it was for them.

Happy Mother's Day!

Dave talking to Eli, "Don't you want to wear your shoes instead of your rain boots so you can go real fast on our walk?"
"No I want to go slow" responds Eli. I joke that my boys have two speeds stop and fast, Eli especially.

Mother's day was great. It started Saturday with a morning with a girls outing of Paint Shop flower painting lunch at Zella's and picking out my mother's day presents at boutiques downtown. Afterwards Dave, the boys and I drove into the cities to pick up our van from the dealership. We did some car shopping for Dave- his car is beyond needing replacing and we need to fit three car seats very soon. And then met up with my parents for dinner at Bucca's.

Sunday the boys took me to church while Dave slept off his midnight shift. Then Eli helped me make Mother's Day brunch. He stirred the eggs and other ingredients for french toast and plopped the bread in the mixture for me. I took three short naps in a row this afternoon- one on the downstairs couch, one in Adam's top bunk with while he attempted to rest and one on the upstairs couch. It was like a game of musical chairs, but with napping instead of sitting.

Then we went for a Mother's day special coffee and for a walk by the river with the boys. First we let the boys play at the park, but when we went to get their bikes they were ready to go. Eli wasn't kidding about the wanting to go slow thing though, every park bench got sat on and practically every stick needed to be thrown into the water.

We also got to watch a group of pelican's and that was pretty awesome.

We drove around enough that the boys fell asleep and got naps. And I got to cuddle with a sleeping Eli when we got home.
Dave made a great Mother's Day feast as Adam called it and we had ice cream sundaes for dessert. It was a great Mother's Day!

Meeting Elliott

There is something really special about meeting your siblings child. I'm not even sure I can put into words the feeling you get when you watch your brother turn into a father. This weekend I am so glad we made the uncomfortably long drive to Gurnee Illinois to both spend time with my husbands sister's family and my brother's family (and my father and mother in-law too).

Elliott gave us a bit of a scare- water breaking 7 weeks early, born six weeks early with a herniated diaphragm that needed surgery his first week of life, but he is a strong little guy and has thrived despite everything. He was still in the NICU this weekend which meant my boys couldn't meet their cousin in person, but Matt and Shar are tech savy and set up a Google hang out so the boys could see Elliott from the family waiting room (along with my parents and aunts back in Minnesota).

I was expecting a fragile feeling little baby, but Elliott weighs a little over five pounds and he felt really strong and sturdy when I held him. Dave got to hold him and he agreed with me. He has a ton of hair and huge feet and he's adorable!

And we love him despite his choice in hockey team.

After meeting Elliott we played in the Children's hospital while enjoying the views of downtown and then went out for Indian food with Matt and Shar. It was nice to have a nice dinner where we could talk about everything that has happened the last month with little Elliott.

The rest of the weekend was spent playing with James and Nathaniel - Adam and Eli's other cousins at a water park hotel in Gurnee. The boys had an awesome weekend- they love downtown Chicago and playing in the water!
