The Overbooked Weekend

We get busy often in the summer, but typically we schedule one or two things a weekend. Well in the middle of July we found our selves quadrupley (is that a word) booked on a Saturday. David had to work on Saturday morning, we had the 3M fair picnic, my cousin Maggie had her Minnesota wedding reception and my cousin MegAnn had her wedding shower. It was insane to think we could do all this - especially since I was over congested with a head cold. But we had intentions of doing everything.

On Friday we had no real plans so we made it a family fun night. We went and got $1 Culvers for Crazy Days (why does every park adventure seem to start with Custard from Culvers?). Then we drove to the other side of town to go to Driftriders park, it's a park sponsored by the snowmobile club and my research told us there was a play structure there. We walked into the wide expansive park and didn't see any typical play structure. What we did see was a giant rock in the middle of the park and when we got closer we realized it was the play structure. Immediately the boys were boys and started climbing all over the rock as Dave and I spotted.
After closer inspection we realized it was designed equipment for ages 5-12.

Saturday morning David got up early and went to work. When he came home we let Eli finish his nap and packed up to go to the 3M picnic at the fair grounds. It was drizzling a little bit, but that didn't stop us from having fun on the rides. The best thing about the picnic is when you register you pay a fee, but the day of the picnic you don't need to bring any money. The rides, food, drinks (including beer), broiled chicken dinner is all free.

We had intended to only be at the 3M picnic for a couple of hours, but we were having so much fun and the sun wasn't out that we didn't notice the time. We finally were heading out of town at 5:30 and showed up way late for my cousins wedding reception in the park. The boys were worn out and napped the whole way there. And as the day turned to dusk we headed to my cousin on my mom's side of the family for a wedding shower.
We spent the night at my parents house so we could spend more time with Matt and Shar on Sunday before they went home to Chicago. Late in the morning we wandered as a family (grandma, grandpa, us, both my brothers and my sister in-law Shar) to a park near my parents house. Adam requested that Shar take our family photo on the park. Sunday was relaxing and fun, except I had a massive head cold- summer colds are no fun.
We spent an hour outside my parents home in the shade playing while my dad cooked Sunday dinner. I just love my moms garden. After dinner the boys were way over tired so we said goodbye and got on the road so they could nap.
